Chapter 703: Take Action
Chapter 703: Acting
"Fine!" Qian Fu readily agreed to Chen Hongyu's request.
"Where did you get five thousand?" Li Huowang looked at him.
Qian Fu hurried over, lowering his voice. "Shh, just pretend I have it! Aren't we trying to get through this mess together? We can deal with other matters later! Better to owe money than lose your life!"
Hearing that, Li Huowang fell silent and watched as Qian Fu shoved the money into Chen Hongyu's hands.
At that moment, Yang Na wore an expression of inner conflict. It wasn't about the money—it was about what they had just talked about. "Huowang, are you sure what that woman said is true? About some special abilities... Is this really..."
"I..." Li Huowang showed a flicker of hesitation, glancing back and forth between Qian Fu and Chen Hongyu. "I don't know... We're here now. Let's give it a try. We shouldn't listen to what they say—we should only watch what they do."
That was what he said, but if there were another option, Li Huowang would never choose this one.
Seeing the conflicted expression on Yang Na's face, she finally nodded without saying anything.
"So how do I get you out of here?" Li Huowang asked Chen Hongyu.
"No worries. She doesn't need our help! She's incredibly strong! She can get herself out!" Qian Fu said with great confidence.
"I'm not like Qian Fu. I didn't get locked in—I paid to come in. If I want to leave, it's just a matter of saying the word. Come on. I've got a lot of stuff. Help me pack." Chen Hongyu said, turning away from the visiting room.
"Come on, Li Huowang, let's go help pack! Look, we’ve got a helper now!" Qian Fu said, turning and walking toward the dormitory section.
Li Huowang considered it for a moment, then said to Yang Na, "Let’s go. First, take her out."
Yang Na nodded and followed Li Huowang toward the hospital wing.
Since they were helping a patient pack up, and it was a self-paying patient, the three of them smoothly entered the interior of the No. 6 People's Hospital.
There was nothing particularly different from other psychiatric hospitals—just odd behaviors and nonsensical speech. Li Huowang had long grown accustomed to such things.
As they walked deeper inside, absurd words reached his ears.
"I won’t eat eggplant—not because I’m picky, but because the eggplants they send me look suspicious. If you bring me a bowl of eggplant, I’ll eat it."
"I'll tell you a secret. The world we live in might actually be a holographic imprint left by a higher-level world in space. Everything around us seems real, but it's all illusion. We move because that higher world is moving. We think because that higher world thinks! This is a physics model I proposed in 1997, but no one has ever accepted it. But I tell you, everything I say is true! The whole world is fake!"
"What higher world or not, let me take your pulse. Oh my, you’re seriously ill. Did you take the medicine I gave you?"
Feeling Yang Na becoming tense, Li Huowang gently soothed her. "It's okay. Those who can move freely usually don’t have violent tendencies—they're mild cases. There's no danger."
The three soon arrived at Chen Hongyu's bedroom. Upon seeing the pile of luggage under her bed—plastic buckets, bins, and bags filled with random items, some of which Li Huowang couldn’t even identify—their eyes widened.
It was bad enough that there was so much stuff, but the bags and sacks were filthy. Yang Na, who was particular about cleanliness, frowned.
"Just take that bag of snacks. Leave the rest for when I come back," Li Huowang said, lifting a jute sack full of clothes and heading out.
Carrying things back and forth was exhausting. Fortunately, both Li Huowang and Qian Fu were strong. After two round trips, they finally finished.
Li Huowang carried the suitcase, making his final trip with the changed Chen Hongyu.
"You met them? Fought them?" Chen Hongyu suddenly asked.
Li Huowang nodded. "Yeah. I even killed one of them. Bit off one of their fingers. Too bad, even after calling the police, we couldn’t find them."
"Hmph. How childish. You actually thought about calling the cops? They won’t believe it. They’ve recruited people among them, one of whom has powerful psychic abilities. They erase all evidence clean, completely."
Li Huowang looked at her seriously, studying her three chins. "I just want to ask you something—did you tell the truth?"
"What? Even after someone came looking for you, you still don’t believe?"
"Believe or not, it doesn’t matter. As long as I solve this problem once and for all, I want to live a normal life. I don’t care about anything else."
"Don’t count on it. Some things aren’t something you can just walk away from just because you don’t want to deal with them. If you want to solve the trouble, you must get involved."
With that, Chen Hongyu picked up her luggage and quickened her pace.
Just then, "Whoosh!" A figure suddenly appeared behind Li Huowang, grabbing the hanger and tightening its grip around his neck.
The plastic-wrapped wire squeezed his trachea, making it hard to breathe. His brain began to swell with blood. He grabbed the hanger with both hands and struggled to look back.
Soon, he saw a familiar face hanging upside down—Wang Wei, his former attending physician!
Wang Wei pressed his foot firmly against Li Huowang's back, preventing escape, his face twisted in fury. "How long are you going to fool yourself? Remember! That world isn’t fake! Everything that happened there was real! Wake up!"
"Cough cough cough!" The suffocation grew stronger. Li Huowang's pupils rolled upward, and soon he saw a strange circle, filled with shifting snowflake patterns.
"Bang!" Chen Hongyu struck Wang Wei in the head with a fist, knocking him unconscious and sending him sprawling to the side, unconscious.
Li Huowang quickly pulled the hanger out of his flesh and coughed violently, clutching his throat.
"Are you okay?" Chen Hongyu patted his back and looked at the unconscious Wang Wei, her expression growing serious. "I never expected their people could infiltrate here. What exactly did you do? Why are they watching you so closely?"
After catching his breath, Li Huowang shuddered, recalling the terrifying encounter. That man’s strength was incredible. If Chen Hongyu hadn’t intervened, Wang Wei’s surprise attack might have succeeded.
Thinking of that, he cast her a grateful glance. "Thank you."
Whether she was mentally ill or not, at least she had proven her kindness toward him. Even if she truly was mentally ill, it was a good kind of mental illness.
