Chapter 807: White Jade Capital
Chapter 807: White Jade Capital
“They... where are they?” Li Huowang hovered in the White Jade Capital, his gaze wandering aimlessly through the vast emptiness around him.
The divine beings and celestial Buddhas who had once filled the White Jade Capital—those bearing the will of Heaven—had vanished. The place that had once been crowded now stood eerily empty and desolate.
Li Huowang had come to assist, believing that the dog-headed monster had long since been struck down from above. But it hadn’t happened. He couldn’t find any other Commanders of Fate.
Upon arriving, he had indeed encountered some things—very dangerous ones—but he still wasn’t certain whether those were the Commanders of Fate who had invaded the White Jade Capital.
With a swift flick of his tentacles, he pushed himself forward, beginning his search.
Li Huowang vaguely remembered that the sects below had already begun their actions. It shouldn’t have been this quiet up here.
“Ji Zai!! Come out quickly! I’m here!! What’s going on?! Where are you?!”
This was nothing like what he had imagined before. This was definitely not what Xuan Pin had seen when she ascended.
If he had faced such a situation back then, he would never have died here.
“Ji Zai! Ba Hui!” Li Huowang shouted loudly within the White Jade Capital, but there was no response.
“Could it be that I was wrong? Should I go back?”
Just as that thought crossed his mind, he felt a mirror appear beneath him. After a moment’s hesitation, he reached out and gently touched it.
In the next instant, he saw himself reflected in the glass—his own reflection was staring back at him. He remembered that place—it was the lotus pond at the head of Niu Xin Village, a spot he rarely visited.
If he went there, it would only be for one purpose: to contact Ji Zai through the reflection!
“Ji Zai?” The Li Huowang in the mirror suddenly spoke. The sudden voice startled Li Huowang so much that he immediately let go of the mirror.
Trembling, he raised his hand and stared in disbelief at what he held. “Ji Zai? Am I Ji Zai now? Once I reach the White Jade Capital, I become Ji Zai?”
His mind became chaotic all at once. The Commander of Fate he had once cursed was now himself.
Still skeptical, he reached out again to touch the mirror. In the next moment, a familiar voice came from the other side.
“You talk! Why won’t you speak?!”
The other Li Huowang was furious.
“This disaster is completely different from the past! Back then, it was just decay disappearing, or the sun vanishing during the day. But this time, death itself has disappeared!”
As Li Huowang pulled his hands away from the mirror, the reflection froze in place, waiting for Ji Zai to respond once more.
Li Huowang stared in shock at the scene before him. These words were ones he had spoken just recently! The past version of himself was speaking to the present! He truly was Ji Zai now!
At that moment, more mirrors appeared beneath him. Each one showed a different version of Li Huowang searching for Ji Zai at various points in time.
Some were events that had already occurred, others were futures yet to unfold.
Looking at his past and future selves, Li Huowang suddenly seemed to understand something. Here in the White Jade Capital, there was no sense of time. In the mortal world, time existed; here, past and future were one.
“Great Commander of Fate… without past or future?”
Just as Li Huowang began to grasp what Zhuge Yuan had written on the fan, the empty surroundings started to change. The space grew dense with fragments of the past.
Some of these events had occurred in the past, others in the future. But in this place of no past or future, everything happened in the present.
“There’s something moving!!” Li Huowang shouted with a twisted face, wildly swinging his tentacles covered in dragon scales in all directions, narrowly avoiding invisible threats.
The area finally began to buzz with activity. Li Huowang had finally found what he sought—the Commanders of Fate had returned!
They were fighting. The clash between two heavens tore the White Jade Capital apart before slamming it shut again.
At this moment, Li Huowang found himself caught between them, surrounded by danger.
Before, he hadn’t understood why the Grand Master and others had gouged out their eyes before entering the White Jade Capital. Now he finally knew.
Here, having eyes meant seeing too far, knowing too much, and losing focus on one's own tasks—just like him now.
“Aaaahhh!!” Li Huowang’s pupils trembled as he gazed toward the distant horizon. He saw things from the past, changes happening in the past. He now understood how Da Nuo had gone mad. Some heavens that should not exist had seeped in.
Those heavens were still there! It was those heavens that shouldn’t exist that drove Da Nuo—and the entire world—to madness!
As more Commanders of Fate appeared, more and more details poured into Li Huowang’s mind from every angle and time. The constant influx squeezed out what should naturally reside within him.
But after he dug out his own eyes, things improved greatly. He could finally focus on what needed to be done.
Though he had no eyes, his other senses remained intact. His six dragon whiskers were still there. He could perceive everything around him, though not as far.
He could still hear the voices of the Commanders of Fate, smell their scent, taste their essence.
He sensed Ba Hui! He sensed death, even decay. They were fighting something else—some entangled heavens, heavens the White Jade Capital had never known.
These heavens clung together and transformed into one another, each representing a different aspect of existence.
They were over there, trying to fully seize control of the White Jade Capital. Without eyes, Li Huowang couldn’t see their forms. All he could feel was their vast blackness.
Their battle resembled two suns colliding violently in the sky above.
Li Huowang wanted to help, but he was far too weak. Though he possessed dragon energy, he was still unable to resist the influence of those heavenly Commanders.
Yet facing such a situation, he could do nothing—even if he was now Ji Zai. Even if he was now the Confused Commander of Fate!
“No! That’s not right!” Li Huowang struggled frantically, squeezing through gaps to strike.
“Xuan Pin and the others definitely ascended! They definitely killed Yu’er God under their assault!”
Seizing an opportunity, Li Huowang darted away, flying through the empty void. With both hands raised, he shouted, “Die!”
But the next second, nothing happened. Instead, Ji Zai was sent flying backward. He had no right to interfere.
If not for his dragon energy, even observing would have been fatal.
