Chapter 702: Chen Hongyu
Chapter 702: Chen Hongyu
Li Huowang gazed upward, his eyes fixed upon the towering main building of the hospital before him, its red letters spelling out "Sixth People's Hospital" against the sky. This was the address that Qian Fu had mentioned—a place where his friend, who might be able to offer assistance, resided.
It was ten o'clock in the morning, and they had arranged to meet at this precise time.
Li Huowang cast his gaze around, spotting Qian Fu standing in the sunlight, nervously scanning the surroundings. Clearly, he had arrived early, clutching a black bag in one hand, filled with what appeared to be odds and ends.
He walked over with Yang Na beside him, saying nothing, merely pausing briefly in front of Qian Fu before walking straight into the hospital.
Qian Fu immediately understood Li Huowang’s intent and quickly followed.
Once the two met inside the hospital lobby, Li Huowang said, “Let’s go visit. Find the helper you’re looking for.”
Qian Fu nodded calmly. “Don’t worry, I know this place better than you do. Can I borrow your ID? I forgot mine.”
Following the standard visiting procedures, Li Huowang learned the name of Qian Fu’s so-called helper—Chen Hongyu.
“She sounds like a girl’s name,” Yang Na said curiously. “Huowang, don’t you think this guy might be her boyfriend?”
“If there is any relation, it can only be as a wife. At his age, he couldn’t possibly be dating someone younger.”
A subtle unease stirred within Li Huowang’s heart—not because he feared the helper might be mentally ill—but because he doubted whether Qian Fu’s friend could actually help them.
For someone so erratic and unpredictable, believing even half of what he said would already be fortunate.
While they were talking, the door opened, and a plump woman stepped out.
She was quite overweight, appearing to be in her forties or fifties. Her eyes lacked luster, hanging down listlessly, and her forehead and cheeks were covered in red acne. Her sleeves and collar were grimy, and through her sparse hair, one could clearly see her scalp.
Her appearance was undeniably shabby.
“Hongyu! Hongyu! It’s been years since we last saw each other!” Qian Fu exclaimed, rushing forward with excitement. “Look what I brought you!”
He opened the black plastic bag with pride, revealing its contents: half an apple with yellowed flesh wrapped in aluminum foil, a roasted eggplant skin, and two bottles of unopened drinks.
“Did you dig these out of a trash bin?” Hongyu asked with disgust. “Do you think I’m meant to eat garbage?”
“Don’t be ungrateful. When we were wandering, finding anything like this was like celebrating New Year’s.”
Seeing the surveillance camera, Li Huowang quickly snatched the bag from Qian Fu and tossed it into the nearest trash bin.
He leaned close to Qian Fu’s ear, speaking sternly, “Are you trying to get yourself arrested?! Be normal!”
Only then did Qian Fu stop reaching for the discarded items.
Li Huowang pushed Qian Fu aside and took his seat at the visiting area. He looked up at the woman before him. “Hello, my name is Li Huowang. Your parents sent me to check on you. How are you doing in the hospital recently? What’s your condition like?”
Hongyu’s drooping eyes curled into a smile that didn’t reach her face. “Just come straight to the point. Don’t act all mysterious—they can’t hear us anyway.”
Hearing this, Li Huowang felt a wave of relief wash over him. No matter what, this old woman seemed far more reliable than Qian Fu.
He decided to drop the act and simply recounted everything that had happened to him.
But as soon as he finished, she mocked him. “Heh, Qian Fu is a lunatic. You actually believe what he says?”
“Um, Hongyu,” Qian Fu looked up with longing toward the plump woman. “Stop joking. You must have sensed it too, right? They’ve really arrived. It’s not just about Li Huowang. If Li Huowang disappears, it’ll be our turn. The Leo aliens are greedy beyond measure.”
Hongyu ignored Qian Fu and turned back to Li Huowang, her voice lazy. “He’s a madman. What you encountered weren’t aliens at all. They’re just ordinary people with ulterior motives. It’s a well-organized group hiding in the shadows.”
“Oh?” Li Huowang felt a glimmer of hope. Finally, someone who wasn’t insane and knew the truth. “Tell me more. How much do you know about them?”
As Hongyu hesitated, Qian Fu piped in from the side, “Hongyu, don’t worry. Just speak. He’s one of us—he saved me.”
Upon hearing this, Hongyu finally spoke. “They haven’t only targeted you. They’ve been after others too. I was once captured by them, but I managed to escape.”
“Why? Why are they doing this? Who are they exactly?”
“They’re doing this because they want to steal my special abilities! ‘Having jade without guilt, commoners bear responsibility.’ They’re a secret underground group trying to seize superpowers!”
Li Huowang was speechless for a moment.
He glanced at Qian Fu again, feeling foolish for having trusted his words.
“...” Li Huowang stared at Chen Hongyu with a complex expression. “Schizophrenia?”
“What? Don’t you believe me? Don’t tell me you don’t have special powers. If you didn’t show any, how would they find you?”
“Special powers? But I never—” As he spoke, a memory struck him, and he shook his head violently. “No, that’s not it. That’s definitely not it.”
At that moment, Qian Fu interjected, “Hongyu, look—I’m free now. You should come out too. Let’s take care of this together. End all the trouble once and for all.”
“No way. Too tiring. I’d rather stay here. You guys fight it out outside, while I watch from here. They can’t do anything to me if I stay put.” With that, Hongyu turned to leave.
Hearing this, Qian Fu panicked. He looked around, then suddenly grabbed Bai Lingmiao’s handbag and began rummaging through it. “I’ll give you money! Look, all red bills! All yours if you help! And how do you know they won’t break in? Are you really safe here?”
Seeing the paper money in Qian Fu’s hands, Hongyu, who had just turned to leave, paused. As she turned back, greed flickered across her fat face.
She extended her five fingers, black mud clinging to her nails. “Fifty thousand! After the job is done, fifty thousand each. I’ll deal with them myself.”
