Chapter 437: Father and Daughter Reunited
Chapter 437: Father and Daughter Reunited
Li Wei gazed at little John, feeling helpless within his heart.
If the boy himself was unwilling to strive for it, then even Li Wei's willingness to help would avail nothing.
With his current strength, he was fully capable of aiding little John in pursuing happiness.
To put it without exaggeration—
He already possessed the power to sway the fate of nations.
A single meteor fireball spell could directly obliterate the royal capital of the Kingdom of Marchel.
With the royal capital destroyed and the king, generals, and ministers all dead,
the Kingdom of Marchel would be no different from having been annihilated.
Li Wei and little John walked within the mage tower for a while before parting to attend to their respective affairs.
Little John felt genuinely delighted at being able to see Li Wei.
He had originally thought that after Li Wei became a great mage, he would be difficult to get along with.
Unexpectedly, he hadn't changed at all.
The only change might be that he had become even stronger.
Li Wei entered the mage tower and came to the sixth floor to see Torresta.
"Master, I'm back."
Torresta stood in the center of the hall, waiting for Li Wei's arrival.
He had long known that Li Wei had returned.
Seeing Li Wei and little John strolling and chatting below in the mage tower,
although his heart yearned intensely to see his resurrected daughter, he did not urge Li Wei.
Torresta smiled gently, "Welcome back."
Li Wei released Saint Xi from the beast ring.
"Hmm?"
He looked strangely at the beast ring—why couldn't he get Saint Xi out?
Could the beast ring be broken?
He communicated with Saint Xi in his mind.
"Saint Xi, come out. Is there something wrong with the beast ring?"
Saint Xi responded softly, "I'm a bit afraid."
Upon hearing this, Li Wei burst into laughter.
Was this what they called being nervous about returning home?
Li Wei could understand Saint Xi's feelings.
He said, "Don't be afraid. He is your father—the person who loves you most in the world."
Saint Xi fell silent.
Torresta seemed to realize that Li Wei was communicating with Saint Xi.
He quietly watched Li Wei with kind eyes, showing no trace of impatience.
Nor did he utter a word to urge Li Wei and Saint Xi.
After much inner struggle, Saint Xi finally took a step forward and walked out from within the beast ring.
Torresta gazed at the sacred young dragon floating in mid-air, his eyes unable to remain calm.
Although he was trying his utmost to restrain his emotions, Li Wei could still sense the turbulent waves deep within his gaze.
Torresta had waited for this day for a thousand years.
It was unimaginable what kind of emotion could sustain such persistent longing for so long.
Torresta slowly stepped forward and extended his hand.
His hand trembled slightly.
It was inconceivable—for Torresta was an illusion body, theoretically incapable of trembling.
But he was simply too agitated.
So much so that he could not control himself, instinctively displaying some human reactions.
Saint Xi looked at Torresta somewhat fearfully.
Not the kind of fear born of terror, but rather the fear that comes with facing family bonds.
Perhaps it could be called expectation and hope.
Saint Xi hid behind Li Wei, not daring to approach.
Seeing this, Li Wei gave Saint Xi a gentle push on her back, guiding her toward Torresta.
Saint Xi panicked, her limbs flailing wildly in mid-air as if trying to grasp at straws to steady herself.
She crashed headfirst into Torresta's embrace.
Torresta held Saint Xi, his voice complex and excited as he whispered, "Child, you've finally returned."
Hearing this, Saint Xi's struggles gradually weakened.
She reached out her claws to embrace Torresta. Her body was still small, her arms short, though she tried her hardest to hug him.
But it looked like a puppy clinging to its master's chest.
Torresta held Saint Xi for a moment before letting her go.
He looked at Saint Xi seriously and said, "Child, I know you carry heavy hatred in your heart."
"But I hope you can live happily, without sorrow over past grievances."
"You need not worry about the Dragon Tyrant King—I will kill him and avenge your mother."
At this moment, extremely firm light of conviction blazed in Torresta's eyes.
Li Wei, upon hearing this, stared blankly at Torresta.
He knew that everything Torresta said was true.
Torresta had not abandoned his quest for vengeance—he regarded the Dragon Tyrant King as his lifelong enemy.
What kind of upheaval could the hatred of a lich—or rather, a mage—accumulate over a thousand years create? It was unimaginable.
A mage spending a thousand years plotting to kill a single enemy—
Even if that enemy were as powerful as the Dragon Tyrant King, it would still be enough to make one's heart race with fear.
At any time, a prepared mage was the most terrifying enemy.
Let alone a legendary mage who had been preparing for this very purpose for a thousand years.
Upon hearing this, Sainte seized Torresta's arm tightly, her voice trembling with anxiety as she spoke: "Father, don't go. The Dragon King is far too powerful."
She possessed the memories from before Philis's death.
Sainte understood better than anyone else just how formidable the Dragon King truly was.
At the same time, an indelible fear had taken root deep within her heart.
This fear could only be erased by slaying the Dragon King himself.
Fortunately, there remained a glimmer of hope.
Sainte carried within her the bloodline of the Sacred Dragons; if allowed to mature undisturbed for several millennia, she would eventually reach their full potential.
By that time, she would possess sufficient strength to confront the aged Dragon King and exact her revenge.
Seeing Sainte’s concern for him, Torresta smiled warmly, touched by her care.
He gently patted her head and said, "Do not worry. I know well enough how strong the Dragon King is. Without absolute certainty of success, I certainly won't act rashly."
Inwardly, however, he thought carefully—he must not move prematurely or alert the enemy.
If his first attempt failed to kill the Dragon King, and it became known that a legendary mage had spent a thousand years plotting his demise,
then Torresta would have virtually no chance left to strike again.
The Dragon King would become endlessly cautious,
and at the same time, do everything in his power to eliminate Torresta.
For now, Torresta remained hidden while the Dragon King stood exposed.
Levi walked toward the edge of the hall, giving Sainte and Torresta ample private time together.
Torresta began speaking with Sainte about her mother, recounting some of the experiences they had shared in the past.
Sainte inherited fragments of her mother Philis’s memories—
but most were those from moments just before her death, leaving little knowledge of the life Philis and Torresta once shared, almost none at all.
What Sainte did know beyond doubt was that her father was Torresta.
That fact needed no question.
Standing at the edge of the sixth floor, Levi made no deliberate effort to eavesdrop, yet still caught fragments of Torresta’s tales drifting through the air.
His physical condition had improved astonishingly.
Simply put, his body alone could rival warriors of equal rank—
perhaps even surpass them.
This tremendous enhancement came directly from his pact with Sainte.
Beforehand, although Levi’s physique had always exceeded that of ordinary mages,
he had never risen above the level of a third-tier warrior.
Now, possessing a body comparable to a fourth-tier knight granted him extraordinary senses—keen hearing and sharp sight alike.
With nothing much to occupy him, Levi turned his gaze toward Mapleleaf City below.
Suddenly, he noticed a group of riders galloping swiftly toward the Mage Tower.
A slight frown creased his brow as he recognized who they were.
"Trouble approaches."
