Chapter 439: Seeing Rox Again
Chapter 439: Farewell to Rox
Li Wei was escorted all the way into the palace.
Perhaps "escorted" would be more accurate.
Grant, commander of the Northern Mystery's Dark Guards, opened the carriage door for Li Wei.
"Archmage Li Wei, we have arrived at the palace."
Li Wei stepped out from within the carriage.
He glanced around at his surroundings and chuckled lightly.
"It does look better decorated than before."
Li Wei had visited the palace once before, though back then it was still known as the City Lord's Mansion.
After the founding of the Northern Mystery Kingdom, the mansion had been greatly expanded and renovated into a much grander royal palace.
Grant didn't respond, instead saying, "Please follow me, Archmage Li Wei."
Li Wei asked, "Are we going to see Oats?"
Grant replied seriously, "Please do not address His Majesty by name directly."
"You may call him Your Majesty or the King."
Li Wei gave a hearty laugh but ignored him.
That was their king and their majesty, not Li Wei's.
Why should he abide by their rules?
Although Grant emphasized this point, he did not pursue the matter further.
He led Li Wei toward the palace where Oats resided.
Before long, Li Wei saw an enormous palace—the largest and tallest building within the royal grounds.
Grant brought Li Wei to the entrance of the palace and said to the guards stationed there, "Please inform His Majesty that Archmage Li Wei has arrived."
Just as the guard was about to move, the palace doors swung open automatically.
"No need to announce; I heard already."
"Hahaha, Li Wei, come in quickly!"
Seeing Oats personally opening the door for Li Wei, Grant showed a shocked expression.
He hurriedly bowed his head respectfully and greeted, "Your Majesty."
The several guards nearby also hastily lowered their heads in greeting.
Oats nodded slightly at Grant and looked at Li Wei, saying, "Come inside quickly."
"Our last meeting was over a year ago. Who would've thought that in just one year you'd become an archmage?"
"I remember back then you were only a first-rank mage, weren't you?"
Li Wei nodded and followed Oats' footsteps into the palace.
He said, "Yes, at that time I had just broken through to first rank and officially became a mage."
Oats laughed and said, "Do you remember what I told you back then?"
Li Wei glanced at him and replied, "I remember."
Oats smiled and said, "If you're willing, I can fulfill my promise to you now."
Li Wei chuckled and shook his head, saying, "Forget it. I don't want to compete with Mage Alan for the position of Royal Chief Instructor."
At that moment, Alan's voice rang out beside them.
He laughed and said, "Li Wei, you're mistaken with those words."
"How is this competing?"
"If you're willing, I'd willingly give up this position to you. You are the true Royal Chief Instructor, truly deserving of being called the First Mage."
Hearing the voice, Li Wei turned his head to look at Alan.
Smiling, he greeted, "Mage Alan, it's been a while."
"Li Wei, indeed it has," Alan replied.
Looking at Li Wei, Alan felt complex emotions welling up inside him, full of emotion.
In the past, he had always held great expectations for Li Wei, believing Li Wei possessed immense potential.
But he never imagined it could reach such heights.
It was simply unbelievable.
He even suspected whether someone else had taken over Li Wei’s body.
How could someone transform from a magic apprentice to an archmage in merely a year and a half?
If not for the certification mark on Li Wei's chest bearing the Elemental Tower's seal,
he might have doubted its authenticity.
Now looking at it, his initial judgment hadn't been wrong.
Li Wei's potential far exceeded his imagination.
Under different circumstances, perhaps Li Wei would have enjoyed chatting casually with Alan.
However, here, Li Wei came specifically to resolve some trouble.
He looked at Oats and asked, "Exactly why did you summon me?"
Oats wasn't angered by Li Wei's lack of formal address.
Titles of respect were merely hierarchical constructs imposed from above.
With Li Wei's strength and potential, he was fully qualified to stand as an equal.
Oats said, "It wasn't me who summoned you—it was someone else seeking you."
"Oh? And who might that be?" Li Wei wore a puzzled expression.
He found it strange—who could possibly make Oats go to such lengths to assist?
Oats replied, "Follow me—he awaits you behind."
Li Wei's eyes narrowed slightly as he fell into step behind Oats, walking toward the rear.
His mental senses had already spread ahead.
He discovered that the palace walls blocked psychic perception.
Presumably, these were specially prepared by Oats to counter magical surveillance and prevent eavesdropping.
This made Li Wei even more curious about the identity of the person waiting.
Led by Oats, Li Wei entered the inner hall of the palace.
Upon seeing the figure inside, he revealed a surprised look—completely unexpected.
Never in his wildest dreams did he expect to encounter Rox here.
Soon, a look of wariness appeared in his eyes.
Lox was no pushover.
At their first meeting, he had already wanted to take action against Levi.
Lox looked at Levi and said with a smile, "Levi, I told you we would meet again."
Levi replied coldly, "But I don't want to see you."
Otis and Allen heard the exchange between Levi and Lox.
Both of them showed expressions of shock and suspicion.
Did these two know each other?
And judging by appearances, their relationship seemed far from good.
Otis and Allen couldn't help but glance at Levi several times, greatly surprised in their hearts.
They never expected that Levi would dare speak to Lox in such a manner.
After all, Lox was a sixth-rank archmage, far more powerful than Levi.
His status towered above Levi's.
Yet Levi acted as if he had no fear of Lox whatsoever.
Lox smiled slightly and said, "If you don't want to see me, that's simple. Just hand over some of your sample materials to me."
"From then on, I'll definitely not disturb you anymore."
Levi sneered coldly, "Heh, nice wishful thinking."
Who knew what Lox wanted his sample materials for?
Lox's profession was biological alchemist—in other words, a scientific madman.
There was nothing outlandish that Lox might do that would surprise Levi.
Lox shook his head and sighed, saying, "Levi, why must you be so guarded toward me?"
Levi responded, "I'm afraid no one could feel goodwill toward a stranger who attacked upon first meeting."
Upon hearing this, Otis and Allen exchanged glances.
They guessed that there must have been some conflict between Levi and Lox.
Lox said, "Let's not discuss our personal matters. I called you here because I wanted to ask about the Dragonfall Slope."
"Have you seen that dragon at Dragonfall Slope?" Lox asked.
Levi answered decisively, "No."
Lox stared at him and said calmly, "You're lying."
"Yes, so what if I am?" Levi admitted directly.
Lox laughed, "It seems you won't cooperate unless I show you something."
"Erika," Lox called out.
Erika stepped forward from behind him and walked toward Levi.
A mere Levi wasn't worth him moving personally.
Erika approached Levi and said, "Levi, just tell the teacher everything."
