Chapter 462: Far North Ice Field

Chapter 462: The Far North Ice Plains

Li Wei stepped out of the room, with Alice following closely behind.

She rubbed her neck and gazed at his back, asking, "What did you say to her? Why wouldn't she let me listen?"

Li Wei glanced back at Alice and replied, "Nothing much—just some private matters concerning me."

Alice blinked as she looked at him. "Really?"

She didn't believe for a moment that the Goddess of a Hundred Flowers would discuss personal affairs with Li Wei upon their very first meeting.

Their relationship hadn't reached that level yet.

But since Li Wei had already said so, Alice decided not to press further.

Looking at him again, she asked, "Are you leaving now?"

Li Wei turned his gaze toward the distant sky and said, "Yes. I can't stay any longer. If I do, our enemies will come."

"Enemies?" Alice frowned in confusion.

Her eyes locked onto him with unwavering determination like steel, and she spoke earnestly, "Who are they? I'll help you."

Hearing this, Li Wei smiled slightly and shook his head. "There's no need. They're an existence neither of us can stand against."

"Don't worry—I'll return someday."

"I'm off. Take care."

With those words, Li Wei transformed into a crimson arc of light and soared into the heavens.

Alice waved goodbye and shouted after him, "Farewell! May your journey be safe!"

He had told her that once he left Flying Blossom City, he was heading straight for the Far North Ice Plains.

That place lay far beyond human civilization, where traces of humanity were nearly nonexistent.

Even the beastmen who dwelled in the desolate northern frontier rarely ventured into its territory.

The temperature there remained perpetually below minus forty or fifty degrees Celsius—so harsh that even the naturally robust beastmen found it unbearable.

Alice couldn't fathom why Li Wei would choose such a hostile environment.

The severity of conditions in the Far North Ice Plains rivaled those of the Poison Dragon Cave.

To most living beings, it was nothing short of a death zone—an absolute forbidden land.

Yet given Li Wei’s strength, provided nothing unforeseen occurred, surviving there should have been within his capabilities.

As Li Wei departed from Flying Blossom City en route to the Far North Ice Plains,

several fully armored paladins appeared within Maple Leaf City.

These holy knights strode through the streets of Maple Leaf City, causing crowds on both sides to scatter in silence, too afraid even to lift their heads before these oppressive figures.

Everyone felt anxious and uneasy. What could possibly have happened to bring the Holy Church's paladins all the way to such a remote location?

The leader of the paladins glanced down at the Fate Pendulum in his hand.

Then he headed outside the city walls.

The pendulum had already locked onto Li Wei’s position.

These four paladins had come specifically to retrieve Li Wei and bring him back to the Holy Temple.

Each one was a half-step legendary warrior, while their leader had already entered the realm of legend himself.

Such a formidable force indeed.

The Holy Church clearly placed immense importance on capturing Li Wei.

This was mainly because when Minos pursued Li Wei previously, he encountered resistance from a legendary lich.

Thus, to avoid another confrontation with that same lich, the church dispatched this powerful team to apprehend Li Wei.

Otherwise, merely winning first place in the Five Supreme Mage Towers’ exchange competition wouldn’t have warranted sending forth legendary-level paladins.

One true legendary paladin accompanied by three half-step legends working together could even challenge a legendary lich.

Minos, being a Cardinal Archbishop, had originally set out from the Holy Temple under orders from the Saintess to pursue the sacred artifact known as “Tears of the Goddess.”

At that time, he wasn’t certain whose hands actually held the Tears.

All the Saintess required was that he bring back whoever might possess them—the individual named Li Wei.

Now that it was confirmed Li Wei had obtained the Tears and destroyed them,

there was no longer any need for Minos himself to intervene directly.

Without direct command from the Saintess, it wasn’t his turn to act personally.

After departing Maple Leaf City, the four paladins immediately summoned their mounts—sacred unicorns adorned with snow-white wings—and swiftly galloped off in pursuit of Li Wei. As the sacred unicorns ran across the ground, flapping their wings to ascend into the sky, they became four golden streaks racing rapidly toward the horizon.

"Hmm? He changed direction."

The paladin leader noticed the needle of the Fate Pendulum pointing northwestward.

Without exchanging words, the quartet altered course and chased after Li Wei.

Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!

Li Wei cast his Fire Escape Technique, blazing across the sky like a meteor.

People on the ground mistook the fiery trail overhead for falling stars and instinctively bowed their heads to make wishes.

Once finished wishing, they raised their eyes only to see four more golden meteors streaking across the sky.

Sensing something trailing behind him, Li Wei turned around and spotted four shining stars appearing at the edge of the horizon.

Curious, he muttered, "What is that?"

His speed unconsciously slowed.

Seeing the stars approaching quickly after Li Wei decelerated, the pursuing paladins drew closer.

Realizing what he initially thought were stars were actually chasing him, his expression subtly shifted.

Eyes narrowing, Li Wei tried deducing the identity of his pursuers based on subtle clues.

Unfortunately, the distance between them was still too great—even though it continued shrinking rapidly.

Despite everything, Li Wei couldn’t discern exactly what those four gleaming objects were.

But whatever they were, they certainly weren’t friendly.

And Li Wei definitely didn’t want to get caught.

"At this speed—they mean business," he concluded inwardly.

Immediately afterward, he accelerated.

Boom!

Flames erupted violently from his body, propelling him forward at incredible velocity.

Perhaps sensing Li Wei attempting to flee faster…

The four paladins also unleashed their true abilities.

"Flight Blessing!"

"Speed Aura!"

"Holy Charge!"

Buzz buzz buzz!

The Speed Aura expanded, and the four sacred unicorns emanated thick holy aura, their speed suddenly increasing dramatically.

The four hooves of the sacred unicorns galloped frantically, as if they could trample the air to accelerate, becoming faster and faster.

Li Wei sensed the pressure coming from behind through his subconscious perception.

His eyes focused intently—he had no time to worry about consumption, using an even more powerful acceleration ability.

Bang!

The flames on Li Wei's body turned blue, and nine blue fire rings erupted from his back, shooting him forward hundreds of meters in an instant.

His speed had already exceeded nine Mach.

Rapidly approaching ten Mach.

He no longer cared that continuing to accelerate might lead to loss of control.

The enemies behind would give him no opportunity.

Speeding across the desolate northern lands, Li Wei spotted several low-lying orcish cities.

The orcs noticed Li Wei flying past in the sky and tried to attack him.

Unfortunately, before the orc archers and slingers could launch their assault, Li Wei had already flown beyond their range of sight.

Having no idea how many cities he had flashed past, Li Wei's magical power was now consumed by more than half.

Finally, a snow-white horizon appeared before his eyes.

That was the Far North Ice Plain—his destination.

Li Wei did not slow down; instead, he continued accelerating, plunging headlong into the Far North Ice Plain, a veritable death zone.
