Chapter 467: Legends of the Far North Ice Field

Chapter 467: The Legend of the Far North Ice Plains

Bear Two stared at the goblin thief clutched before him by the mage's hand.

His face was full of surprise and delight.

"Levi, I can't thank you enough. You've been an incredible help."

Having spoken, Bear Two grabbed the scrawny goblin thief.

The goblin looked like a hairless, emaciated monkey, with grayish skin.

When held tightly in Bear Two’s grip, he wore a pitiful expression, tears of fear streaming from his eyes.

"Spare me, sir! Spare me! Don’t kill me…"

The goblin thief begged frantically.

Bear Two glared at him with wide eyes and roared, "Quickly hand over everything you stole!"

Ten minutes later, Bear Two retrieved what had been taken by the goblin.

He looked at Levi with immense gratitude. "I really owe you one. If it weren’t for you, there’s no way I’d ever get this stuff back."

Levi smiled slightly and asked, "Now do you have time to tell me about that legend?"

Bear Two glanced at the tall igloo beside them, its chimney still puffing out wisps of white smoke.

"No problem at all," he said. "Of course I do. We can talk while we eat."

The two walked toward the restaurant.

Food was extremely scarce on the Far North Ice Plains, and nearly every restaurant was eerily empty.

But if a restaurant could stay open here, it must have found some way to make money.

Bear Two said, "Order whatever you want. There are many things here you can’t find outside—specialties of the ice plains."

"Oh, really?"

Levi picked up the menu and took a glance. He noticed that the prices were outrageously high.

Even the cheapest dish cost a silver coin.

Still, for him, it was within affordable limits.

He casually ordered several dishes. Bear Two winced as he listened, feeling somewhat uneasy inside.

When Levi handed the menu to Bear Two, the latter could only symbolically order a few cheap but tasty dishes.

While waiting for their food, Bear Two began telling Levi the legends passed down across the Far North Ice Plains.

"There’s a legend that has been circulating since who knows when. Deep within the coldest abyss of the Far North Ice Plains lies a truly magical place. If someone enters it and stays there for ten years, only a few days will pass outside."

Upon hearing this, Levi felt a slight stir in his heart. Could this be referring to the treasure of the Time Dragon?

Matters involving time inevitably brought thoughts of the Time Dragon to mind.

Curious, Levi pressed further, "Has anyone actually seen that place?"

Bear Two shook his head. "No. If someone had, then it wouldn’t just be a vague legend anymore."

"But I’ve heard the shamans say that such a truly extraordinary place does exist deep within the Frozen Abyss. It’s also incredibly dangerous—it’s said to be the domain of the legendary Ice Emperor, who lived for a hundred thousand years. Outsiders simply cannot approach it."

"The Ice Emperor?" Levi asked, puzzled.

He had never heard anything about this figure.

Bear Two replied, "It’s normal that you haven’t heard of the Ice Emperor. Only shamans and other ancient inheritors know of this terrifying existence. Before ancient times, the Ice Emperor ruled over the entire Far North Ice Plains. Only after the Ice Emperor fell into slumber did the Snow Queen establish her city of ice and snow, becoming the new ruler of these lands."

"According to the shamans, no living person has ever seen the Ice Emperor. Once awakened, wherever the Ice Emperor goes, blizzards will engulf the land, turning everything into ice that won’t melt for millennia. All paths shall vanish without a trace."

Levi remained highly cautious regarding the legends told by Bear Two.

Bear Two always claimed that nobody had entered or witnessed those places.

Yet if truly no one knew anything about them, how did these legends spread so widely?

Could they all merely stem from rumors?

False tales couldn’t withstand the test of time—they would eventually fade away.

Legends that survived through generations usually carried some form of verification or evidence.

Levi believed that Bear Two simply didn’t know better—not that no one else knew at all.

He became interested in the shamans mentioned by Bear Two.

If all the legends came from the shamans, then surely they must possess more detailed knowledge.

"Excuse me, sirs. Your meal is ready. Please enjoy."

Just as Levi was about to ask Bear Two more about the shamans, the waiter approached with the final dish, smiling politely.

Levi courteously thanked the waiter.

Bear Two, growing impatient, picked up his utensils and urged, "Let’s eat first. We can talk after we’re done."

They silently enjoyed the delicacies of the City of Ice and Snow, adhering to the old saying: “Don’t speak during meals; don’t talk in bed.”

After eating for a while, suddenly, Bear Two collapsed face-first onto the table, his head plunging into the bowl filled with rich soup, smearing grease across his face.

Levi froze, stopping mid-action, staring blankly at Bear Two.

"Did he… fall asleep?"

Checking Bear Two’s condition, Levi realized he had already fallen into a deep slumber.

Soon, however, he sensed something wrong.

This wasn’t sleep.

It was unconsciousness.

The food was poisoned. Bear Two had eaten the tainted meal and collapsed.

Thanks to his Saint Dragon Body and the Blessing of the Flower Goddess, Levi was immune to most toxins in the world.

Thus, poison strong enough to knock out Bear Two had no effect on him whatsoever.

Calming himself, Levi extended his mental perception.

He discovered that the waiter who had served them earlier was now standing behind the wall, listening intently and watching their movements.

It seemed as though he was waiting for Levi to collapse from poisoning too.

Expanding his awareness deeper, Levi saw several figures huddled together on the floor inside the kitchen.

Two others stood nearby, seemingly holding weapons.

If he wasn’t mistaken, those crouching on the ground were likely the original waiters and chefs of the restaurant.

The waiter hiding behind the wall and the two guarding the cooks were probably the ones responsible for the poisoning.

Levi looked at Bear Two, falling into brief silence.

He didn’t even know whether the attack was aimed at him—or at Bear Two.

Bear Two? Or was it him?

After a moment's hesitation, he chose to feign unconsciousness, collapsing face-down onto the table.

Bang!

Li Wei crashed onto the table, making a loud noise.

Hearing the sound, the waiter cautiously peeked in and saw that both men were already unconscious, revealing a smug expression.

He reached out and signaled his two companions in the kitchen.

The three men walked over to Li Wei and Bear Two's table.

"Is this the person the boss was looking for?"

"It should be him. There shouldn't be any other outsiders in the city."

"Then let's take him away. What about this one beside him?"

"Take him too. Leave it to the boss to deal with."

"Got it."

One of them pulled out ropes and a sack, preparing to bind Li Wei and stuff him into the bag to carry away.

Suddenly, Li Wei sat up straight, his eyes fixed intently on the three men.

The three were instantly frightened stiff, standing frozen in place with shocked expressions.

"You... you... you... why aren't you unconscious?"

Li Wei stared at the three men and demanded, "Who is this boss you're talking about? Why are you looking for me?"

The three exchanged glances and drew their weapons, saying, "If that's the case, then we'll do it the hard way. Take him away!"

One man said arrogantly, "Although mages are formidable, what use is that when we're this close?"
