Chapter 701: Both Sides
Chapter 701: Both Sides
Hearing Yang Na’s words, Li Huowang’s heart gave a sudden jolt. Looking into her pure eyes, he found himself at a loss for how to express his overwhelming emotions.
In the end, he cupped Yang Na’s face and kissed her passionately.
In public, Yang Na felt uncomfortable. “Let’s go home. Auntie woke up early; if we don’t return soon, she’ll notice.”
Seeing Li Huowang look toward Qian Fu again, Yang Na said, “You don’t need to worry during the day. I’ll keep an eye on him. We can communicate via phone.”
“Okay,” Li Huowang nodded. With Yang Na’s help, things would be much easier. He wouldn’t have to worry about Qian Fu running off unattended.
When Li Huowang returned home and lay down in bed, thinking back on what had just happened, his mind remained restless. Sleep was far from him.
He yearned for Yang Na to trust him—desperately so. Yet, a nagging thought kept surfacing in his head.
If Yang Na didn’t understand, it was understandable. If he were in her shoes, he probably couldn’t believe such an absurd explanation either.
“But...” Li Huowang hesitated. He was caught in a dilemma.
Just as he was wrestling with this problem, the bedroom door opened softly.
As soon as Li Huowang lifted the blanket to get out and see who it was, a soft, warm body snuggled into his arms.
“Miaomiao, what’s wrong?” Li Huowang breathed in the familiar scent of her hair, stroked the “hairpin” between her strands, and felt the smooth scales of her snake skin sliding against his body beneath her white fur.
As her actions grew more intimate, Li Huowang quickly pressed both her hands down. “No, Miaomiao, your wound isn’t healed yet.”
Bai Lingmiao’s body went limp. Her blood-stained tears soaked through the bandage covering her eyes. “Li Huowang, are you starting to look down on me? Do you think I’m not pretty anymore?”
Feeling the sorrow in her voice, Li Huowang gently embraced her, kissing the scales beneath her fur.
“No, when I was out of my mind after leaving Qingfeng Monastery, you never looked down on me. How could I ever look down on you?”
“And besides,” Li Huowang began, but Bai Lingmiao kissed him again, her forked tongue emerging from her sharp teeth like a flexible rope, firmly wrapping around Li Huowang’s tongue.
Before Li Huowang could struggle, another body gently leaned against his back—also Bai Lingmiao.
The oil lamp was thrown to the floor, plunging the room into darkness.
But Li Huowang’s vision was sharp enough to see clearly. “Besides, Miaomiao, you’re really beautiful now.”
“……”
“……”
As the night gradually lightened, a slender, pale arm stretched out from under the covers, lifting a corner of the starry curtain. Sunlight poured in, making the two heads that had emerged from the blanket squint.
“I’ll get up first. I’ll watch over that crazy uncle for you. You can sleep a bit more,” Yang Na said, covering her chest with one hand and reaching for her white sweater on the floor.
Li Huowang, bare-chested, leaned against the headboard, silently watching the scene unfold before him.
His gaze made Yang Na blush slightly. “You should get some rest. You didn’t sleep all night yesterday.”
Saying this, she seemed afraid he might misunderstand and quickly clarified, “I mean, you ran out to save that lunatic from the psychiatric hospital.”
“Why?” Li Huowang asked.
“Because I’m your childhood friend. I truly believe what you said. I’m not trying to calm you down just to secretly call the police.”
Li Huowang took Yang Na’s hand, feeling ashamed of his earlier doubts. Why had he ever questioned her?
Yang Na turned her head and kissed him lightly before walking away. Clearly, she was still adjusting, moving slowly while clutching her stomach.
Once alone in the room, Li Huowang let out a long breath, feeling unusually happy.
Unlike before, no longer standing alone, whatever came his way, Yang Na would always stand beside him. The feeling of companionship was truly wonderful.
“Knock knock knock.” The door was knocked on.
Since Yang Na had just left, it couldn’t be her knocking. “Son, I heard that Nan Nan has been accompanying you to the hospital lately, right?”
“I didn’t mean anything by it. It’s fine to go together. Young people should hang out. In the future, you two can go together. Your mom promises not to show up and cause trouble.”
After saying that, there was silence outside. Just as Li Huowang thought Sun Xiaoqin had left, she whispered again.
“By the way, you two should be careful. Don’t end up killing someone.”
Li Huowang buried his face under the blanket, unwilling to talk about this topic with his mother.
Time passed slowly. During the day, apart from keeping an eye on Qi Dama, Li Huowang also had to guard against others’ gazes, so he could only stay within the residential complex.
Only at night, when everything was quiet, did he venture out to check on Qian Fu.
After nearly ten days of this routine, Qian Fu finally regained his personality.
“Not bad. Tying me up—it’s actually a good idea. Ji Zai, thank you.”
Qian Fu said to Li Huowang. “If it weren’t for your help, the Leo alien would’ve used high-tech remote control to take over my body and lock me up again!”
After more than ten days of waiting, Li Huowang’s patience had run thin.
“You said you needed help, that you wanted to find someone to deal with them together. Now that you’re awake, can’t we go find them?”
“Yeah, yeah, yeah!” Qian Fu rubbed his wrists where the ropes had left marks, nodding vigorously. “Don’t worry, if they want to attack us, we can’t just sit back and wait—we must strike first! I’ll go find my friends and act together!”
With that, Qian Fu turned to leave, but Li Huowang stopped him immediately. “Wait. First, tell me who your friend is and where they are.”
“Uh…” Qian Fu looked conflicted. “I know where it is, but I don’t know how to explain it.”
“How can you not know how to explain it? There’s a map app here. Point out the exact location,” Li Huowang placed his phone in front of Qian Fu.
After Qian Fu clumsily gestured a few times, a location appeared on Li Huowang’s screen. “The Sixth People’s Hospital.”
“You’re sure your helper is inside?” Li Huowang frowned. From what he knew, the Sixth People’s Hospital was also a public psychiatric hospital.
“Your friend might be mentally ill too?” For some reason, Li Huowang wasn’t surprised by this question.
“Yes, my friend lives there. Don’t worry, it’s their territory.”
After thinking carefully, Li Huowang said, “Fine. Go wait at the entrance of the Sixth People’s Hospital. We’ll go together during the day.”
“Huowang, you won’t be able to go. You’re being watched by many people,” Qian Fu said.
Li Huowang shook his head calmly. “It’s okay. I can’t go anywhere else, but I can definitely go to the psychiatric hospital.”
