Chapter 362: High Priest
Chapter 362: The Grand Cleric
The number of victims poisoned by Green Corpse Cold surged from one hundred thousand to five hundred thousand.
Upon hearing this news, Leo was extremely shocked.
Yet Lancelot remained remarkably calm.
Soon, the City Hall and the Temple of Light declared that there had been errors in the headcount statistics.
There were already so many poisoned individuals.
It was merely that those victims' symptoms were too mild.
Thus, they had not been counted.
Until afternoon passed, when the incubation period of Green Corpse Cold ended and the deadly poison erupted.
Only then did the numbers skyrocket.
They told the residents of Storm City not to panic, for the Temple of Light would soon produce solutions.
Residents within Storm City suddenly discovered that none of the people under the Temple of Light's command had fallen ill.
In an instant, countless crowds surged into areas controlled by the Temple of Light, seeking shelter and safety.
At dusk, Leo stood atop the roof, gazing at the streets below packed with people.
From other parts of Storm City, countless masses poured into these very streets.
They would rather leave their comfortable homes unoccupied than sleep here upon the street.
You must know, it is now January, nearing February.
The nights are exceedingly cold.
Even morning dew freezes into frost.
Yet these people still endured the chill, crowding onto the streets outside the Temple of Light.
Leo suddenly felt the Church of Light was truly no good thing.
To propagate faith and recruit believers, they stopped at nothing.
Leo suspected those spreading news that no residents under the Temple of Light had been poisoned were indeed agents of the Temple.
"When the people rise, they suffer; when they fall, they suffer."
Leo sighed with emotion.
If he did not possess supernatural power, he too would be but one of the common multitude.
Leo looked up, as if seeing the gods above bow their heads to survey the world.
Even possessing supernatural power, he remained part of the common multitude.
Not speaking of the distant and unreachable deities.
Leo himself was currently under the manipulation of the Legendary Necromancer.
He wished to break free from the puppet strings upon his body.
"Tomorrow, the Goddess's Tear will arrive at Storm City."
Leo thought to himself.
Tomorrow was destined not to be peaceful.
Tonight was the final tranquility before the storm arrived.
For ordinary citizens, this "storm" had already lasted long enough.
But Leo's "storm" had not yet begun.
Supernatural beings and ordinary people were already two different worlds.
The supernaturals of Storm City were about to face a super-storm sweeping over everyone.
No one could escape.
Savinia stood upon the rooftop, gazing down at the Storm City beneath her feet.
A mocking expression appeared upon her face.
"Humans are indeed a despicable species; to achieve their ends, they spare even their own kind."
The Minotaur Arnold stood beside her, silent and speechless.
Savinia had only spread the Green Corpse Cold toxin within a small area of Storm City.
Originally, it was estimated that one hundred thousand people could be infected within three days.
Enough to force the Temple of Light to petition the Holy Temple of Light to use the Goddess's Tear.
The Legendary Necromancer knew the minds of those men in the Church of Light better than anyone.
They fundamentally did not care whether the world was stable or if people lived in peace and contentment.
They only needed faith.
If peace could bring faith, then they would create peace.
If war could bring faith, then they would instigate war.
Whether natural disasters or man-made calamities, they were merely tools for the Church of Light to harvest the world's faith.
From beginning to end, the Church of Light worshipped the God of Light, not the Light itself.
The deity was what mattered most.
Justice did not matter.
A figure materialized before the two of them. Savinia and Arnold hurriedly bowed their heads to greet him.
"Master."
"The Goddess's Tear is nearly here; tell Morpheus to prepare to intercept it."
"As you command."
The Legendary Necromancer was shrouded entirely in black robes.
He stood in the darkness, gazing afar toward the Temple of Light nearby, which remained resplendent amidst the night.
Late at night, Leo lay upon his bed feigning sleep.
Seemingly asleep, his mind continued to deduce spells.
Within the Temple of Light, Leo had not rashly entered the dream world.
For these past few days, he had behaved very honestly.
Suddenly, there was movement from the guards outside the door.
Leo slowly opened his eyes, his mental perception spreading out like flowing water.
Suppressed by the Temple of Light, his mental perception range shrank to fifty meters.
However, Leo could still perceive the movements outside.
He perceived a multitude of footsteps.
The guards, knights, and sentinels of the Temple of Light were converging towards somewhere.
Li Wei's mind stirred slightly; he guessed that perhaps the Tears of the Goddess had arrived.
"Someone just instructed the guards at the entrance to keep a close watch on me. It seems Lancelot still harbors suspicion toward me; he apparently does not wish for me to know that the Tears of the Goddess have come."
"Has he grown suspicious?"
Li Wei pondered within his heart.
At this moment, he was effectively under house arrest.
Acting rashly might provoke further suspicion from Lancelot.
Li Wei quietly cast a spell, the fluctuation of mana imperceptible.
Metamorphosis.
A small insect flew out from Li Wei's palm, darted through the window crack, and pursued the knight passing outside the wall into the distance.
No one would notice a tiny insect in the darkness.
The perspective of the little insect surfaced in Li Wei's mind.
He carefully controlled the insect to conceal its magical aura, following the steps of the Knights of Light.
Soon, Li Wei saw a large assembly of Knights of Light gathering outside the temple.
The insect hovered suspended in mid-air.
Through the insect's eyes, Li Wei gazed upon the main hall of the Temple of Light, its doors tightly shut.
He did not dare approach rashly.
Suddenly, white light erupted from the main hall of the Temple of Light.
After a while, the radiance vanished, and the main hall's doors swung open.
Three High Priests from the Sanctuary emerged from within.
They had escorted the Tears of the Goddess here.
Seeing Lancelot waiting at the entrance, the High Priest smiled and said, "Archbishop Lancelot, is such a grand mobilization truly necessary?"
"Who dares attack the Temple of Light within Storm City?"
Lancelot replied, "It is prudent to be cautious."
"Have you brought the Tears of the Goddess?" asked Lancelot.
The High Priest nodded and said, "They are here."
"I heard a virulent plague known as Green Corpse Cold has broken out in Storm City; if the numbers are not too great, holy water soaked with the Tears of the Goddess could be distributed to the sick to cure them," suggested the High Priest.
Lancelot stated, "Already five hundred thousand people have been poisoned."
The High Priest displayed an expression of surprise.
His heart stirred slightly; "If it is this many people, then we must devise a way to prepare a miracle."
"Preparing a miracle takes time; I wonder if the sick can wait until that moment."
Lancelot said, "Rest assured, I have prepared everything required for the miracle ritual; now we only await the appearance of the Tears of the Goddess."
Hearing this, the High Priest sighed with relief, "That is good."
"Then, the time to manifest the miracle shall be set for tomorrow noon."
Lancelot nodded and said, "No problem."
"Tonight, the three of you should rest well."
The Temple of Light had prepared palaces for their residence, dispatching numerous Knights of Light and guards to protect the three.
The High Priest possessed formidable strength himself.
Coupled with the protection of countless Knights of Light, the Tears of the Goddess were utterly secure.
