Chapter 403: Siege
Chapter 403: Siege
Whoooosh!
The howling sea wind swept across Li Wei's face.
He stood atop a rocky outcrop, watching as Nitor approached from the distance.
Everyone else was busy preparing magical traps and spells of all kinds.
Only he appeared idle.
Thump, thump, thump!
The ancient beast’s footsteps drew ever closer.
A towering figure emerged from the forest—trees reaching only to its midsection.
Its upper body loomed high above the treetops,
like an ancient giant gliding through a sea of wood.
It exuded an overwhelming sense of oppression.
Nitor stepped into the magical trap.
With a thunderous boom, the gravity suppression spell was triggered.
In that instant, the gravitational force in the area surged to dozens of times normal levels.
The ground sank several meters; Nitor’s legs plunged deep into the earth up to the calves.
Bent slightly under the crushing weight, Nitor struggled.
Pfft!
He pulled his foot free from the mud and took another step forward.
Each stride left behind a deep crater.
Poof!
A cloud of smoke erupted from the trees, striking Nitor square.
Enveloped entirely by the vapor, a sizzling hiss filled the air.
This was a corrosive alchemical reagent prepared by the alchemists, designed specifically to weaken Nitor’s terrifying defenses.
“Dimensional Slash!”
The space mage launched the first attack.
The Dimensional Slash tore through space itself, devouring everything in its path.
Sensing danger, Nitor opened its massive beak wide, revealing countless rows of razor-sharp teeth within.
“ROAR!”
A furious roar burst forth, sending a violent gust of wind that scattered the surrounding toxic mist.
From its mouth shot a crimson beam of light, colliding directly with the spatial rift created by the slash.
For a brief moment, both forces clashed in stalemate—then exploded violently with a deafening blast.
Whoooosh!
Above, a colossal meteor plummeted from the sky.
Trailing a long tail of flame, it homed in on Nitor’s position before crashing down.
Nitor sensed the threat overhead and reacted instantly.
Turning its head toward the falling fireball, it unleashed a scarlet shockwave.
BOOM!
The meteor shattered midair, exploding into countless fragments that rained across the island.
Li Wei frowned slightly.
Failure.
That had been his doing—the Meteor Strike spell.
Though swift in descent, meteors were far too conspicuous.
To a powerful being like Nitor, such cumbersome projectiles posed little challenge.
Nitor scooped up flattened trees and clumps of soil from the ground, hurling them at those beyond the range of the gravity trap.
Its monstrous strength imbued even dirt and timber with devastating force.
In moments, they pierced cleanly through trees and stone alike.
Boom, boom, boom!
One unfortunate soul caught in the barrage was sent flying along with their protective magic shield.
Nitor whipped its head sideways, firing a red laser beam that scorched the earth.
RUMBLE!
The ground erupted, instantly destroying the gravity suppression trap.
Now freed from restraint, Nitor regained full mobility.
Its immense form surged forward with shocking speed.
In the blink of an eye, it appeared before one of the mages.
BOOM!
Nitor slammed its foot hard into the earth.
The land cracked and upheaved, fissures spreading like spider webs, uprooting every nearby tree.
The targeted mage vanished like a popped bubble, dissolving into thin air.
It had been an illusionist.
What Nitor struck was not his true body.
The illusionist attempted to use psychic magic to control Nitor,
but Nitor seemed immune to such effects.
None of the attacks registered any impact.
Its thick brown fur acted like a dense anti-magic barrier.
Magical energy could not penetrate past this coat to harm the creature beneath.
Even the corrosive agent caused minimal damage—
merely curling the outermost layer of hair slightly.
BOOM!
A cyan fireball struck Netro.
The fireball burst apart, unleashing a terrifyingly immense, scorching heat.
The fur upon Netro's body burned to a charred black.
Its frame shuddered slightly, and fragments of scorched fur drifted down to the ground.
Levi gazed intently; the high temperature of the cyan fireball had caused some damage to Netro, but it was not enough.
Far from enough to kill Netro.
Unless he were to burn Netro with the hundreds of thousands of degrees of cyan flame for an extended period.
Only then could that magic-resistant layer of fur upon its body be burned away completely.
Levi felt the situation turning thorny.
Netro's defensive power was absurdly high, and yet its strength and speed were also incredibly astonishing.
Levi stared at Netro, intending to deploy the rudimentary rules of fire to attack it.
Netro sensed the danger in an instant.
It vanished from Levi's field of vision.
A dark shadow emerged from behind Levi.
Bang!
Netro smashed a fist toward the crown of Levi's head.
The fist plunged directly through the ground.
It slowly lifted its fist; Levi's figure had disappeared into nothingness.
This, too, was an illusion.
Netro swiftly scanned the surroundings, searching for Levi's figure.
It perceived a sense of danger radiating from Levi.
Hiding in the shadows, Levi felt a sudden shock in his heart; fortunately, he had used Phantom Body just now.
Otherwise, that single punch would have been quite enough for him to bear.
After a day of rest and recuperation, Levi's shattered invisible armor had fully recovered.
Netro could not kill him with a single punch, but it was estimated that the invisible armor could not withstand a few of Netro's attacks either.
Its strength was far too terrifying.
Illusion arts and fire-attribute spells could hardly inflict damage upon Netro.
The only thing capable of posing a threat to Netro was the Dimensional Slash, and it possessed a method to counter that as well.
Levi's rudimentary rules of fire could destroy Netro's fur.
However, the moment he stepped forward to activate the ability, he would be locked onto and hunted down by Netro.
Netro's speed was simply too fast.
Deprived of the restrictions of the gravity-suppression magic trap, Netro's speed utterly crushed everyone else.
Netro scanned the surrounding area once, then turned and walked toward the nearest challenge arena.
Compared to killing the crowd, the purple stones buried beneath the challenge arena held more of its attention.
Seeing Netro depart, the alchemist hurriedly began searching for something in the place where it had lingered.
"What are you looking for?" Levi asked.
Without turning his head, the alchemist said, "Quickly help me look for any fur left behind by Netro. I can manufacture an alchemical potion specifically designed to counter it, based on the characteristics of its fur."
Hearing these words, everyone set to work searching one after another.
The instances in the previous battle that offered a chance to make Netro shed fur were not many.
After everyone busied themselves for a long while, they managed to find only four strands of tough, broken fur as thick as chopsticks.
Netro's fur was incomparably tough; ordinary swords and blades could not cut through it at all, and it possessed an extremely powerful magic resistance.
This was a superlative material for forging defensive gear.
Regrettably, wishing to obtain Netro's fur was far too difficult.
Unless they could kill it.
Yet to kill Netro, the very first step was that they had to destroy that layer of highly defensive fur upon its body.
Rumble!
Levi and the others saw Netro break through another arena, destroying the stage to obtain a purple stone.
After devouring the second purple stone, two purple lines appeared upon Netro's body.
They extended all the way from both sides of its shoulders down to its waist.
They resembled a pair of suspenders emitting a purple glow.
Netro's aura grew even more powerful.
Seeing this state of affairs, the alchemist hurriedly said, "Find a way to hold it back, and buy me some time."
