Chapter 401: Ancient Calamity Beast

Chapter 401: Ancient Catastrophe Beast

Li Wei sat cross-legged on the rock, calmly cultivating.

The shadow servant stood guard nearby.

Eris was not far away on the arena platform, using long-distance communication magic to stay in contact with others.

Exchanging information.

After Li Wei returned, Elfa soon abandoned the peak arena.

Challengers came one after another; even Elfa found it extremely difficult.

Difficult and unrewarding.

It would be better to accumulate some points elsewhere first, then go capture the peak arena to exchange for the arena space barrier item.

This item could guarantee six hours of arena ownership.

Its effect would be crucial at the final moment.

Currently, it wasn't needed much.

At this stage, the spatial spear was more useful than the arena space barrier item.

After leaving the peak, Elfa occupied an intermediate arena halfway up the mountain to earn points.

Three thousand points were required to exchange for the arena space barrier item.

On ordinary arenas, it would take a full fifty hours to accumulate three thousand points.

Yet the competition time was only three days.

Occupying a mid-level arena halfway up the mountain yielded two points per minute.

Thus, only twenty-five hours of occupation were needed to gather enough points.

The high-level arena at the summit granted three points per minute.

Less than a day would suffice.

However, holding the peak's high-level arena for an extended period was too difficult.

Elfa managed to hold it for less than an hour before withdrawing.

Seeing Li Wei exit his cultivation state, Eris said, "Elemental Tower has currently seized six arenas and obtained four competition items."

"Besides the spatial spear and void chain, the other two items are the beast control ring and elemental pact."

"Items that both suppress and enhance summoners and elemental mages."

"The beast control ring can control summoned beasts and also enhance their combat power."

"The elemental pact allows the contract holder to become immune to a specific element's damage, greatly increasing corresponding elemental spell potency."

Upon hearing this, Li Wei smiled and said, "In that case, doesn't the void chain also have aspects that aid spatial mages?"

Since suppression items also carried enhancement effects,

the void chain should have similar properties.

Eris nodded and said, "Exactly. According to the latest battle reports, there was a spatial mage who used the void chain during combat to forcibly teleport opponents through space, throwing them out of the arena range."

Li Wei showed surprise, "Such an outrageous effect?"

Under normal circumstances, unless there was overwhelming strength, even spatial mages couldn't easily relocate uncooperative mages.

Mages could always interrupt spatial teleportation spells.

But under the void chain's influence, spatial mages gained the ability to forcibly teleport targets.

For arena battles, this was practically a devastating weapon.

Simply teleporting opponents outside the arena range would easily secure victory.

Due to rule restrictions, opponents teleported out of the arena couldn't challenge the arena master again within twelve hours.

Almost ensuring arena dominance.

Eris said, "Currently, the only way to deal with the void chain is to avoid being restrained."

"There might be items that counter the void chain, but none have been discovered yet."

Li Wei nodded, "It seems competition items are indeed very important."

"If you or I encounter an opponent wielding the elemental pact alone, we'd be in serious trouble."

Although Li Wei had combat methods beyond fire spells,

if fire spells proved useless, his strength would diminish by nearly eighty percent.

Even ninety percent.

This didn't mean Li Wei was weak.

It merely reflected how incredibly powerful the fire spells he mastered were. Even with just ten percent of his strength remaining, his combat effectiveness wouldn't fall much below that of a typical fourth-tier mage.

Li Wei looked up; the sky had already darkened.

He stood up and said, "The day is over. The night should be quieter."

After the intense daytime battles, everyone needed rest to recover their strength.

Nighttime battles might decrease significantly.

One full day had passed, and most of the island's arenas had already been located.

Scattered among various factions.

Only one hidden arena remained undiscovered.

Li Wei took food from his spatial ring and shared it with Eris.

Eris said, "Thank you."

As Li Wei ate, he gazed around and asked, "Where do you think that hidden arena is concealed?"

Eris bit into a piece of jerky and replied, "It shouldn't be on the island itself, otherwise it would've been found long ago."

Li Wei nodded, "I think so too."

He looked toward the strait between two peaks.

Li Wei said, "I think it might be there."

Eris followed Li Wei's gaze, feeling slightly stirred.

That location happened to be the central point of the entire isolated island realm.

Moreover, the stone bridge connecting the Twin Peaks Island hadn't broken during all the fighting—it was quite miraculous.

Either no one had gone there, or something special lay there.

"Roar!"

Suddenly, a deep, drum-like roar echoed through the night sky.

Li Wei and Eris exchanged glances, both showing expressions of surprise.

The two quickly turned their heads toward the direction from which the sound had come.

Although the sound permeated the entire solitary island, Li Wei could still clearly discern that it originated from the strait between the two mountain peaks.

Since arriving on the island, Li Wei had harbored a persistent question in his heart.

Before the competition, the Space Tower had emphasized that ancient vicious beasts existed within the secret realm, posing extreme danger.

Yet after an entire day had passed, Li Wei had not encountered any "dangerous" ancient vicious beasts.

Though the magical creatures on the island were not of low rank, for a group whose weakest members were all fourth-rank grand mages, they hardly constituted any real threat.

Moreover, there had been no trace whatsoever of any ancient vicious beasts.

Now it seemed the ancient vicious beasts had yet to make their appearance.

Nightfall was when the ancient vicious beasts truly came into their own.

Li Wei focused his gaze intently as a figure emerged from within the strait.

A ferocious ancient vicious beast, over twenty meters tall, walked out from the sea.

The ancient vicious beast was covered entirely in long, thick brown fur, resembling a giant, with three-toed hands and feet like those of an ox.

Most striking of all was its head, which bore an enormous curved beak.

Like that of a massive crow.

Seeing this, Eris's expression grew grave as he said, "An Ancient Calamity Beast! A Nitro!"

Li Wei asked in confusion, "What is that thing?"

Eris explained, "It's a particularly special type among the ancient vicious beasts, born solely for destruction—wherever it goes, disaster spreads in its wake. It's also known as an Ancient Calamity Beast."

"The Nitro is a shaggy giant with a massive crow's beak; nothing can grow wherever it treads."

From afar, Li Wei observed the Ancient Calamity Beast, mentally assessing the Nitro's strength.

Bang!

The ancient vicious beast stepped onto shore and headed toward the nearest forest.

The magical creatures and animals within the woods sensed danger approaching and fled frantically.

Ignoring the small creatures scurrying about on the ground, the Nitro crushed a third-rank magical beast beneath its foot with one step.

Then it strode toward the nearest humans.
